Why should I install Solar PV Panels?
Your Solar PV system will generate clean electricity for your home or business. You will also be paid by the government introduced and backed “Feed in Tariff” (FIT) scheme for every unit of electricity you produce even if you use that electricity yourself.

Yes you did read correctly! You will actually be paid for generating electricity even if you use this electricity yourself! So not only will you get paid for creating green energy/electricity but you will save money too by not needing to buy so much from your regular energy provider. This leads to massive savings on your electric bill coupled with a tax free income.

WHAT IS A ‘FEED IN TARIFF’ FIT?
Feed-In Tariffs (also known as FITs) are government guaranteed payments for 20 years to ordinary energy users for the renewable electricity they generate.

Feed-In Tariffs are the electricity part of what some people call “Clean Energy Cashback”, a scheme that pays people for creating their own "green electricity".

The government started FITs to encourage the UK public to produce their own electricity. At the moment you will be paid a generous amount for every unit of electricity you produce. A typical 2kW system installed in South Wales will produce around £500 a year for a south facing roof, TAX FREE! 3kW, 4kW, 5kW etc… The bigger the PV system, the more you will earn.

WHO PAYS ME?
Your electricity provider will pay you quarterly for the full 25 year term of your feed in tariff. They are legally required to do this under the renewable energy rules that have been introduced by the UK government to encourage PV users and to reduce our carbon emissions. Visit www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/generate-your-ownenergy for more information.

DO WE HAVE ENOUGH SUN IN THE UK TO MAKE OUR PV PANELS WORK?
Yes, surprisingly the UK annually receives 60% of the light falling on the equator. South Wales has an average of around 1100kWh per kW peak installed where panels are optimally positioned. South, South East or South Westerly facing roof tops are ideal for PV in the UK.

DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?
No, PV systems fall under ‘Permitted development rights’ so most domestic PV systems do not require planning permission. Listed buildings may require planning permission but laws are very lenient where PV is involved.

HOW LONG WILL MY PV SYSTEM BE GUARANTEED FOR?
PV panels have no moving parts so all MCS accredited PV panels are guaranteed for 25 years, but can remain efficient for up to 40 years. The higher the quality of the PV panel, the longer it remains efficient and the more electricity it will produce in cloudy or less light conditions. A high quality PV panel is essential for this.
